Student wellbeing
At Pelaw Main Public School, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We are dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student feels valued, connected, and ready to learn.
Whether your child needs support with their mental, emotional, social, or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive both at school and in everyday life.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s wellbeing is part of everyday school life at PMPS. We provide a range of programs and support to ensure every child feels safe, cared for, and able to reach their potential. This includes:
- Teachers and School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) who help students feel welcome, included, and supported in the classroom
- Access to our school chaplain and wellbeing officer
- Access to school counsellors, psychologists, and specialist staff
- Programs that support health, social skills, attendance, and positive behaviour
- Help for students who are new or moving between year levels
- Clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- Staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- Developing individual health care plans for students
- Open communication about wellbeing and support
- Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) – promoting respectful, responsible, and safe behaviours, supported by a Dojo Points reward system and termly PBL Days
- Social and emotional learning programs – building resilience, empathy, and confidence
- Anti-bullying initiatives and a strong focus on respectful relationships
- Student leadership opportunities – fostering responsibility, teamwork, and student voice
- Whole-school wellbeing events and activities – celebrating inclusivity, connection, and mental health awareness
We’re also proud to have Theo, our support dog, as part of our wellbeing team. Theo provides comfort, calm, and connection — helping students feel relaxed, confident, and ready to learn.
